An adaptation of Rolling Stone’s contributing editor Evan Wright’s book of the same name, this seven-hour scripted mini-series chronicles the experiences of a reporter embedded with The 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the United States Marine Corps in the first wave of the American-instigated invasion of Iraq in 2003.
This HBO series was adapted for television by David Simon, Ed Burns and Evan Wright and spanned seven episodes. With a lead cast of 28 characters including Alexander Skarsgård, James Ransone, Stark Sands and Lee Tergesen to name just a few, “Generation Kill” was filmed on location in Upington, Namibia, Mozambique and Johannesburg.
“Generation Kill” premiered on July 13, 2008 and quickly captured viewer attention with its hard-hitting content and unapologetic realism. The series scooped up various accolades from the US, UK and Australia and was nominated for a grand total of eleven Emmy Awards in 2009, of which it won three.“Gen Kill” is also significant as one of the first television series ever to be digitally broadcast. .
