The Devil’s Whore (2008)

Company Television Ltd / Channel 4

A four part award-winning mini-series, “The Devil’s Whore” was created by Martine Brant and Peter Flannery, who first began developing the project in 1997.  Directed by Marc Munden, the series was produced for Channel 4 by UK-based Company Pictures.

Set between the years 1642 and 1660, “The Devil’s Whore” charts the progress of the English Civil War through the eyes of a 17-year-old girl, the fictional Angelica Fanshawe.  Starring Andrea Riseborough, Dominic West and Michael Fassbender, John Simm, the series was shot on location in Cape Town.

Out of Africa Entertainment eagerly shouldered the challenge of securing the right locations to accurately depict English countryside between the years of 1638 – 1660, a task integral to the success of the series.  All sets were built by a South African Art Department headed up by UK-based Rob Harris, and the exquisite period costume design was courtesy of an award-winning South African team supervised by Michele Clapton.
